LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
I am running for Re-Election to the City Council of Marietta, Georgia. I would like to continue serving Marietta, helping to better our community and working on improvements for all it's citizens.
Prior to my election, both Shopping Centers on Powder Springs Road were abandoned; many properties in our area had 6’ wire fencing around them and destitute people on many corners. Crime was rampant at Wynhaven (on PSR) and in the Gramling/West Dixie area; also future Hickory Hills Park was a wet bog owned by the School System.
After election, I worked with Cobb County to purchase the old Ingles Center, overcome all the objections from the County and resurrect the deal with the help of the Spanish Missionary Church involving the theatre and Environmental Engineers to overcome the toxic waste left by the dry cleaners in the old shopping center.
After continual work with Cobb County, they closed on the old shopping center and converted it to what it is today Cobb Offices, Senior Center, Veterans Admin., a thriving movie theatre and so much more.
As a board member of the Marietta Redevelopment Authority, we began purchasing blighted properties in the Gramling/West Dixie area. When complete, the area was sold to a reputable builder for single family detached homes. We also facilitated the conversion of Wynhaven Apts. to single family homes and townhouses.
Next, we worked with the school board to let us acquire the property later known as Hickory Hills Park. We made improvements, but really exceeded expectations when the citizens of Marietta approved the Parks bond and we completely remade the park with soccer fields, tennis courts, pavilions, playground and walking track.
I hope I have earned your vote and look forward to hearing from you about any concerns you may have. I am looking forward to finishing the many projects we currently have underway to make our community strong.
Sincerely,
Griffin Chalfant
